Deadlock in 1825

No candidate having secured a majority, the HoR chose JQ Adams as POTUS by 13 votes, against seven for Jackson and four for Crawford a bare majority.

WI the House deadlocks? Say its Adams 10, Jackson 9 and Crawford 5. In that situation there would seem to be too possibilities. Either enough Jackson and Crawford supporters switch to Adams, or things stay deadlocked until March 4, when Vice President John C Calhoun takes over the office of President.

Is the latter outcome possible? How did the Jackson and Crawford men feel about Adams and Calhoun? And if Calhoun gets it, any thoughts on what sort of Presidency he has?

The Senate would have voted between Jackson and Adams VP candidates. If there were still a deadlock March 4th the VP elect would be acting President

Except that Jackson's and Adams VP candidates were the same person - John C Calhoun. He had dropped out of the presidential race and somehow wangled the vice-presidential nomination from both the Jackson and Adams factions. So he got 183 electoral votes and won the Vice-Presidency with no need for a Senate election.

Well then; we as a nation would be stuck with acting President John C. Calhoun until the deadlock ended. Which is somewhat terrifying.
