Monroe Dies 1819

WI James Monroe dies in 1819?

His immediate successor is of course VP Daniel D Tompkins, but iirc he was in poor health so a doubtful runner for an elected term. Judging from 1816, the likeliest DR nominee is Crawford, who in 1820 hasn't yet had a stroke, so might be in with a real chance. But will he be unopposed or will you get rival DR candidates, so that 1820 becomes an alt-1824?

Also, does this affect the fight over Missouri? Iirc Tompkins was somewhat anti-slavery, though I'm not sure how strongly. Or is all much the same?

Crawford is probably the odds-on favorite. But you never know, you still had Adams receive that one vote in 1820, he could become a more significant contender this time around.

Adams would most likely follow a similar approach to Monroe in the whole "National unity and Federal Unity" compared to Crawfords "States Rights Forever" schtick. And besides them, well, you have Clay at 43 and Calhoun at 38. Calhoun is still at his nationalist stage and Clay was always that. In the north you may even have DeWitt Clinton take another stab at being President again. Can't really say anything on Jackson if they decided him four years earleir.

To be fair, it may be an earlier 1824 if it does involve similar people. But i would think for the most part its a Crawford who has the south vs a Adams who has the North.
